Non-radial pulsations in be stars. Preparation of the corot space mission

The general objective of the present work is to contribute to the knowledge of the physics of Be Stars. In particular, we are interested in studying and characterizing their pulsational properties. A very suitable tool to reach this goal is the study and analysis of photometric time series with the maximum time baseline, density and photometric accuracy.The space mission COROT scheduled to be launched in December 2006, will provide ultra high precision, relative stellar photometry for very long continuous observing runs. On the nature of a shell of young stars in the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud

Understanding the evolutionary history of the Magellanic Clouds requires an in-depth exploration and characterization of the stellar content in their outer regions, which ultimately are key to tracing the epochs and nature of past interactions. We present new deep images of a shell-like over-density of stars in the outskirts of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC). Album: A Tool for the Analysis of Slitless Spectra and its Application to ESO WFI Data

ALBUM is a general-purpose tool to visualize and screen large amounts of slitless spectra∈dex slitless spectra. It was developed for a search for emission-line stars in SMC and LMC clusters. The observations were obtained with ESO’s Wide Field Imager (WFI∈dexWFI) and comprise ~8 million low-resolution spectra. The tool as well as the results of its application to the SMC part of the database are presented. The inferred frequency of Be stars is compared to the one in the higher-metallicity environment of the Milky Way.

Bepposax: 3 Years of Operation

BeppoSAX, the X-Ray Astronomy satellite operating in the (0.1–300) keY energy band has now lived more than 30.000 hours in orbit and it is halfway to complete the 3rd round of observations (A03 started at the beginning of may 1999 and it will end in April 2000). A report is given on the general fields covered by the mission and on the more relevant results obtained. The satellite is in excellent operating conditions and it is foreseen to continue the observational life-time well beyond the initially scheduled 3 years.

Pulsating B and Be Stars in the Magellanic Clouds

Stellar pulsations in main-sequence B-type stars are driven by the κ-mechanism due to the Fe-group opacity bump. The current models do not predict the presence of instability strips in the B spectral domain at very low metallicities. Swiftdiscovery of the orbital period of the high mass X-ray binary IGR J015712−7259 in the Small Magellanic Cloud

In the last years the hard X-ray astronomy has made a significant step forward, thanks to the monitoring of the IBIS/ISGRI telescope on board the INTEGRAL satellite and of the Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) on board of the Swift observatory. This has provided a huge amount of novel information on many classes of sources. We have been exploiting the BAT survey data to study the variability and the spectral properties of the new high mass X-ray binary sources detected by INTEGRAL. In this letter we investigate the properties of IGR J015712-7259. We perform timing analysis on the 88-month BAT survey data and on the XRT pointed observations of this source.
